BIRSTALL VICTORIA have won the Yorkshire Men’s League Division Four title and with it promotion thanks to a convincing 26-0 win away at third-placed Farnley Falcons.
In a first half littered with handling errors due to heavy rainfall last Saturday, Victoria went ahead through scrum-half Mick Dyson who kicked an early penalty goal.
But the first try of the game wasn’t scored until Birstall’s man of the match Will Brooke went over on 25 minutes to give his side an 8-0 lead, and the score remained that way through to half-time.
In the second period Birstall controlled the game thanks to good work from forwards Jonni Parish, Danny Hainsworth and Anthony Fallas.
With good field position Dyson and Will Copley helped set up Brooke for his second try of the game and shortly afterwards the full-back completed his hat-trick, but not before Damon Fletcher touched down on 65 minutes.
Dyson was also 100 per cent with his goal-kicking to round of the comfortable win and seal promotion to Division Three in what is their 40th anniversary season.
