Trojans find their feet as Morley bags four

Thornhill Trojans quickly adapted to life in the Pennine League with an 11try 620 demolition of Victoria Rangers.
This was a much needed boost to the Thornhill players, who for the past two seasons have been on the wrong end of several lop sided score lines in the National Conference League.
The rout started on seven minutes when some good ball handling put Tom Holdsworth away on a run. In turn Holdsworth put the supporting Liam Morley over for his first try. Mark Hodgson converted.
Morley continued to torment the visitors with some inventive play. With the tryline in reach Ricky Mayfield kicked forward and gave chase, pouncing on his own kick to score. Hodgson converted.
Minutes later Mayfield went over for his second try of the game, showing terrific pace to power onto the ball and cross for a converted try.
Another break from Mayfield this time put prop Anthony Harris away on a run. Harris got out a wonderful pass to the supporting Morley, who raced over for his second try and Hodgson converted to make the halftime score 240.
The Trojans continued to turn the screw after the break and a long flowing passing movement ended with fullback Hodgson sprinting over for an unconverted try in the corner.
Morley completed his hattrick after the hour mark when he stepped away for a try to capitalise on some good work from Jake Ratcliffe. Hodgson kicked the goal.
Thornhill’s substitutes began to make a mark on the game and they appear to have unearthed a real manmountain in Kevin Johnson.
Johnson is a giant of a player and the club is having to order a speciallymade playing shirt to fit him.
Eventually a good move by Ricky Mayfield was ended when a pass from Paul Gamble put Jason Day over for an unconverted try in the corner.
No sooner had play restarted than Joshua Nelson took advantage of a good pass to score in the opposite corner. Hodgson kicked a brilliant goal from the touchline.
A good run from Luke Oldroyd then sent Jason Day diving over for his second try of the game.
Morley still wasn’t finished and he was at the centre of a run around which ended with prop Anthony Harris going over for a try.
Harris then returned the complement when his offload put Morley over for his fourth try of the game.
Mark Hodgson converted and the referee blew for fulltime.
