THE draw for the first round of the Heavy Woollen Cup sees champions Cleckheaton host New Farnley, in what could prove to be an enthralling encounter, writes Mike Popplewell.
In new signing Mark Lawson, who moved to the club from current cup holders Hanging Heaton, the club certainly have the experience to challenge their Division One opponents.
Current holders Hanging Heaton – who boast a new-look squad captained by former Yorkshire all-rounder Gary Fellows – face up against Jer Lane in a cross-league battle.
The Bradford side finished top of the Fosters Halifax Cricket League Premier Division last season, and in star bowler Simon Collins they have a real wicket-taking threat.
Elsewhere, the Heavy Woollen derby between Gomersal and Moorlands looks a real highlight, with local bragging rights at stake.
Birstall face a challenging trip to Huddersfield League champions Shepley, with the Central Yorkshire League side looking for a shock victory.
Meanwhile, Spen Victoria are at home for their first round tie with Townville and will be looking to Bradford League Players’ Player of the Year contender Rob Burton for inspiration.
Ossett travel to Shelley for their opening round match, with Hartshead Moor also facing a tough away tie at Woodlands.
Liversedge take on Golcar at their Swallow Lane ground, looking to topple the Huddersfield League high-flyers.
