SHAW CROSS Sharks came out on top in their National Conference League Division One basement battle to make it a four-point gap between themselves and Millom.
Millom’s Jake Dooner took the man of the match award in a match where a late fightback by the home side wasn’t enough.
It took 23 minutes for the deadlock to be broken and it came from the boot of Adam Kelly for the home side.
However two tries in as many minutes at the end of the half saw the Sharks lead 8-2 as Will Poching and Matthew Tebb crossed.
A minute into the second half the visitors extended their lead with a Ryan Chalkley converted effort but four minutes later Millom were back in it. Marcus O’Brien scored a try and Kelly landed the resultant conversion before a Chalkley penalty was enough for the Sharks, in spite of a late Connor Sykes try and Kelly goal.
But despite the victory Shaw Cross remain third from bottom and have a long way to go before achieving their goals this season.
The Sharks look to turn around their league campaign with another victory, this time away at league leaders Thatto Heath Crusaders tomorrow (Saturday July 2, 2.30pm).
