SHAW CROSS Sharks’ woes continue after a third consecutive defeat of the season saw them lose 19-12 at home to Milford Marlins in the National Conference League Division One.
It was another tough afternoon for the hosts, who were tipped to be play-off contenders this season but have yet to find their first league win.
In the end Milford held on to beat the under-performing Leeds Road side despite having Ryan Oxtoby sent off in the 48th minute for a headbutt.
At that time the visitors led 18-6 and held out thanks to their dominant pack.
Milford took a 12th-minute lead with a Tom Wilson try which was converted by Oxtoby. The full back also tagged on the extras to a James Barker try but just shy of the half-hour Joe Halloran crossed for a Sharks touchdown.
Just before the break the Marlins extended their lead when Dave Warren went in and soon after the restart Oxtoby was sent off. Halloran went in for his second try but Josh Parle ensured victory with a drop goal six minutes from time.
The defeat leaves the Sharks second from bottom in Division One as their search for a win continues when they play Hunslet Warriors away tomorrow (Saturday, 2.30pm).
