Sam Burgess makes 50-man World Cup squad

Dewsbury Moor RL product Sam Burgess has been named in England’s 50-man training squad for the forthcoming RU World Cup.

The 26-year old has only being playing the 15-man game for six months since joining Aviva Premiership side Bath from NRL club South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The former Bradford and England RL forward still isn’t certain of what position he will play, having featured at flanker and centre, but Stuart Lancaster could play ‘Slammin’ Sam’ in the centres to fill the gap left by Manu Tuilagi.

The final World Cup squad will be cut down to 31 players on August 31.
