Record start for Heckmondwike speedster

MOTORBIKE racer Ryan Strafford has continued his impressive start to the 2014 season with further wins in rounds three and four at Snetterton and Cadwell Park.

The 28-year-old Heckmondwike rider, who races for Ryan Strafford Racing, had raced into the Thundersport GB Championship lead after wins in rounds one and two.

In round three he came away with a race win and three second places in his class and also set a new lap record for the Streetfighter B class in the third race of weekend.

Although Ryan led the championship in his class and the Extreme class going into the meeting, he came away level on points with the chasing pack.

In round four at Cadwell Park Ryan’s team had their build-up disrupted with a serious engine breakdown during testing just two days before the first race.

A second-hand engine was sourced and purchased on the way home on Wednesday afternoon, fitted Thursday evening and tested on Friday morning before setting off for the meeting on Friday afternoon.

Saturday was extremely wet for the test day but everything went well and the new engine ran faultlessly.

In Sunday’s qualifying Ryan set the third fastest time and he carried his pace into race one where he finished first overall, with his main rival finishing in second place close behind.

In race two he finished third, battling back  to finish just 0.3 seconds behind the second-placed rider.

There was another great result for the Heckmondwike racer in race three with a second overall and first in his class.

He also set another new lap record for his class, the third lap record out of four meetings so far this year, with records set at Donington, Snetterton and now Cadwell Park.

In a pulsating final race Ryan led Paul Cunvin, his main challenger, from start to finish but there was never more than three to four bike lengths between them both all race and when they crossed the finish line there was only 0.2 seconds between them.

The three victories and a second place finish mean Ryan is now leading his class by 10 points and is eight points in front in the overall Extreme Championship.

Ryan Strafford Racing’s next meeting is scheduled for tomorrow (Sat) with two races offering double points at Oulton Park.
