Physical contest ends in deadlock

SECOND-PLACED Thornhill Trojans held league-leaders Lock Lane to a 32-32 draw in the Winter Pennine 11-a-side League.

In a heated encounter, played in less than ideal conditions, Thornhill had James Craven to thank for getting something out of the game.

The former Batley Bulldogs full-back crossed for a hat-trick of touchdowns with other Thornhill tries coming from Sam Ratcliffe, Luke Carter and Mark Hodgson for the Trojans.

Sam Ratcliffe (three) and Hodgson were on target with the Overthorpe Park side’s goals.

In reply Lock Lane’s Archie Coffield, Scott Ratcliffe, Josh Steels, Ethan Flowers, Morgan Jones and Brad Robert all crossed the whitewash.

And Robert ensured the points were shared thanks to his four successful conversions.

The Trojans’ cause wasn’t helped by the fact that try-scorers Carter and Sam Ratcliffe both received red cards.

The scoreline was worthy of two teams battling it out at the top of the table, but Thornhill will be disappointed they couldn’t draw level on points with their opponents, had they won the game.

However Thornhill have maintained their unbeaten run in the league and have two games in hand on Lock Lane. If they win those, starting with a home clash with Upton A on December 10, they will lead the way in the 11-a-side table.
