Organisers racing to reschedule 10K race

Dewsbury 10K organisers have confirmed that last weekend’s postponed race will now take place on Sunday March 4.
With temperatures dropping well below zero as the snow fell over the weekend, race director Bernard Disken was left with no choice but to cancel the hugelyanticipated event.
It was the first time the race had ever been cancelled due to the weather but Disken claims marshalling the course, would have been a problem.
He said: “It was really disappointing to see the race cancelled but there was little we could do, the weather was very bad.
“One of the biggest obstacles we were faced with was that of the marshals. They would have had to have started setting up the course from 6am in order for it to be ready for the 9am start time.
“It wasn’t an easy decision to make but I feel we made the right one.
“We were keeping an eye on the weather forecast but the snow came a little later than first suggested.
“Around 12 people turned up but even they came not expecting to run.”
Over 1,000 runners, including some of the country’s finest, were set to compete last Sunday and such demand prompted Disken to act fast, in order to confirm a new date.
