Mirfield Netball clinch title

MIRFIELD Netball Club have been crowned winners of the Dewsbury Champion Netball league for summer 2014.

The club, who train at Mirfield Free Grammar School every Wednesday evening, have a mix of players aged from 21 up to 44 and compete in the Dewsbury league on a Tuesday night at Thornhill Community Academy.

The summer league became a close-run championship with Mirfield winning on goal difference over second-placed Comets. The team were delighted with the win, which was confirmed the night before their first training session of the autumn.

Club captain, Vicky Almond from Dewsbury said: “We’re really pleased to have won the summer league this year. It’s been difficult as we’ve had quite a few injuries, a few on maternity leave and a honeymoon!

“We always welcome new players to train with us and hope to build a second team over the next year, so would be pleased to see some fresh faces at training.”

Mirfield Netball Club is also keen to hear from any local businesses who would like to sponsor the ladies and help fund a new kit.

The sponsors’ logo would feature on the strip and would also be part of their publicity on social media and the web.

Anyone interested in playing or sponsoring Mirfield Netball Club can email the club on: mirfieldnetball@hotmail.co.uk, or contact them on twitter @mirfieldnetball or search for Mirfield Netball on Facebook.
