Junior rugby league round up

THORNHILL TROJANS UNDER-7s faced off against Leeds opposition on Sunday as they took part in a mini tournament at Staningley.

They played against Staningley and East Leeds and some great defence by Jack Chamberlain, Bailey Bennett, Frankie Firth, Joshua White and Benjamin Conn kept their opponents at bay.

But Dylan Stanley was the star of the tournament, picking up the man-of-the-match and opposition’s man-of-the-match for two fantastic runs which led to his try double.

THORNHILL TROJANS UNDER-8s travelled to Dearne Valley Bulldogs on Sunday in a game in which both teams played great rugby.

The Trojans scored through a Blake Clegg double, Toby Lumb (two) Lewis Shires and Alfie Howley.

Howley had his best game of the season so far, scoring a try and picking up man-of-the-match.

Strong defence was also on show from Zak Haigh, Cohen Walker and Kian Stanley.

Meanwhile, THORNHILL TROJANS UNDER-8s A travelled to Doncaster Toll Bar and maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

The Trojans ensured victory in a dominant first period, with a long-range effort from William Frain proving the first of his hat-trick.

Tyler Jowitt scored five tries in a strong display which earned him the opposition man-of-the-match and there was a great try scored by man-of-the-match Bailey Hargreaves.

The remaining try was scored by Ethan Purcell, whilst debutant Mia Gardner received the magic moment award for one of many outstanding tackles.

An under-strength THORNHILL TROJANS UNDER-9s travelled to East Leeds and put in a superb performance.

Trojans were up against it from the start, conceding three early tries, but refused to let their heads drop and battled back in an end-to-end game.

Man-of-the-match Kyle Lister led the fightback with two tries and there were also two tries for magic moment winner Bailey Lee.

Further tries were scored by Kye Hodgson, Oliver Brown and Scott Walker.

DEWSBURY CELTIC UNDER-10s played another outstanding game away at Emley Moor.

The visitors had two top tacklers in Kaiden Smith and Jermaine Marara, whilst the best effort award went to Brandon Campbell.

Celtic’s man-of-the-match was Harry Cummins and opposition man-of-the-match was Kaiden Smith.

THORNHILL TROJANS UNDER-11s visited Upton and produced a great team display.

There were busting runs from Jake Buckley, Dylan Cooper and Beth Firth – who powered across the line from 40 metres out.

Defence was strong with both flanks of the field covered with confidence by Asim Collomosse, Dillon Kilgallonshaw, Zak Harrod and Archie Newton.

DEWSBURY MOOR UNDER-8s claimed local bragging rights in a hard fought derby match at Shaw Cross.

Moor tries came from magic moment winner Sam Beety (two), opposition man-of-the-match Mason Denvers (two), Logan Riddle and Zayin Ajmal.

The coaches’ award went to Jack Horan for showing good grit and determination in his game.

It was double delight for DEWSBURY MOOR UNDER-9s as they claimed two wins in one day.

They first took on Driglington and Edward Brown opened the scoring with a cracking try within the first five minutes.

Further first-half tries from Lucas Evans and Harley Sykes extended the lead, but Drig fought back to score two tries before the break.

However, a second half come back by Moor saw Sykes cross for his hat trick and Ben Heaps, Miles Battye and Eddie Brown also get over the line.

Moor then played Shaw Cross in the curtain raiser at Dewsbury Rams, winning by a single try.

Moor are still looking for new players, for more information please contact Paula on 07904 104548.

DEWSBURY MOOR UNDER-10s showed heart as they competed well with a bigger Hunslet Warriors side.

Moor’s tries came from George Bairstow, Bailey Rogers and a mesmerising side-stepping effort from Theo Maun.

Opposition man-of-the-match Declan Samme and Louie Walker both added conversions. In a good team performance Thomas Riley was named the top-tackler.
