HECKMONDWIKE Cycle Speedway club suffered a bruising 89-58 defeat following their return to Northern League action at Stockport.

The home side, fielding their best riders in addition some excellent reserves, were always going to provide a tough challenge.

And Firth Park sensation Pawel Idziorek’s 14 provided only consolation.

Darren Kent and Jake Wood bagged 12 and 11 respectively, while Justin Naylor scored seven.

And Watson’s Adam and Laura matched Naylor’s effort, with reserve Will Naylor not featuring.

Fast racing was the order of the day on a ‘loose’ track which resulted in a number of falls.

There was drama in heat 10 as Stockport’s Ben Higham skittled Heckmondwike rider Wood, the former being excluded.

And there was a further exclusion in heat 15 when home talent Matt Rush crashed, taking Darren Kent with him.

Adding insult to the away side’s injury, Polish international Idziorek was ordered out of heat 12 after touching the tapes. The exclusion resulted in the loss of four points and ended hopes of another maximum-point haul.
