OSSETT UNITED have announced the capture of former FC United of Manchester striker Tom Greaves.
Greaves is the record goalscorer at FC United with 103 goals in 273 appearances, and took on the manager role last November before resigning two months ago after their poor start to the National League North season.
He played there alongside current Ossett boss Andy Welsh, who is happy to have added the experienced forward to his side.
“Tom is a great player and someone I have personally played alongside,” he said.
“He knows the game and he will fit straight into our team. We are very excited to see him in action.”
Greaves said that his relationship with the manager was one of the reasons behind his decision to join the club.
He said: “I’ve known Welshy for a long time and played with him at FC United so that was a big factor in me coming here, and I know eight or nine of the squad already, so hopefully I’ll settle in nice and easy and we can all push together.”
He used to play at Ingfield for Ossett Town, and has also had spells with Bradford Park Avenue, Bridlington and Garforth, as well as spending the last two months at Hyde United.
“Some of the Ossett Town lads might remember me from back in the day, I was here about 10 years ago,” Greaves said.
“They’ll remember me as a bit of a hard-working centre forward who loves a goal, so hopefully I can produce that for them.”
He added that his aims were “just to get myself in the first team and score a few goals, and hopefully we’ll get up that table and push for promotion.”
Greaves could make his United debut tomorrow (Saturday), when they travel to Lancaster City in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy.
