Five-star Sedge bag first win in a month

LIVERSEDGE FC got back to winning ways with a dominant 5-1 victory away at Retford United in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Joe Walton opened the scoring for the visitors in the 21st minute and that lead was doubled on the stroke of half-time thanks to a neat finish from Brandon Kane.

With a two goal advantage at the start of the second half Jonathan Rimmington’s men looked on course to clinch their first win in over a month before Jack Walters pulled one back for the hosts on the hour mark.

But Walton’s second of the match nine minutes later took the game beyond strugglers Retford.

Late goals from Gibril Bojang and Tom Brook gave Sedge a much-needed boost in the league standings.

Rimmington’s men were leading the way in the opening weeks of the season but a poor run of results has seen them slip outside of the play-offs.

They aim to continue their resurgence at home to Handsworth Parramore tomorrow (Sat, 3pm).
