Draw on travels for Cleck

In a game Cleckheaton RUFC could and should have won by some distance, a converted try in the final seconds for Durham City denied the visitors a third successive victory in a 1717 draw.
Although City opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a penalty from scrum half Lewis Groves, Cleckheaton were dominant in both line and scrum, possession from which resulted in two welltaken tries from Ross Hayden and Simon Quinn, one of which was converted by Iain Gordon.
With a ninepoint interval lead but with lock Dave Freeman off the field injured, Cleckheaton’s ballwinning capacity was reduced.
A second try from Quinn extended Cleckheaton’s lead to 173 but City’s mobile hooker John Nichols went in for a try converted by Groves.
As the game entered injury time the visitors were unable to clear the ball upfield.
City ran the possession back with purpose and big winger Chris Metcalfe romped over for a try with the equalising conversion from Lewis Groves.
