AN under-strength Heckmondwike Cycle Speedway team proved no match for Sheffield on Sunday at Firth Park.
Heckmondwike were missing three crucial riders in Pawel Idziorek, Richard Wells and Jake Wood and ended their home tie with the Steel City side 97-53 losers.
The hosts struggled but some good competitive racing was seen, late entrant Chris Summersgill raced exceptionally well despite being out of the sport for a couple of months, picking up eight points.
Fellow racers Darren Kent (10), Tom Whitwam (eight), Adam Watson (nine+one), Justin Naylor (10) and Laura Watson (eight+one) made up the scoring.
In the junior match Heckmondwike’s Tom Whitwam scored maximum points yet again, showing that at 11 years old he is as good as some of the more senior riders.
Will Naylor added 12 points, with Ben Summersgill (four), Declan Summersgill (eight) and Bella Naylor (five) also scoring.
But they fell short against a strong Sheffield side who came away with a 75-45 advantage.
Training continues on Wednesday nights from 7.30-9pm at Firth Park, Heckmondwike, WF16 0HH. For more information contact Justin Naylor on 07799 367370.
