Deighton climb Championship table after solid win over Town

Due to a full District Cup programme only four games took place in the Heavy Woollen Sunday League last weekend.

In the Championship Deighton WMC climbed to eighth place with a 3-1 win over fellow Huddersfield-based side Town Rangers.

In Division One, The Yorkshireman moved to top spot after drawing 3-3 with Birkenshaw Reserves.

Nathan Alexander, Darryl Senior and Leon Pinnock netted for the new leaders, with Birkenshaw hitting back through a Ryan Hird brace plus a strike from Nathan Foster.

Batley Irish Nash moved up to third place in Division Two after demolishing Overthorpe Sports Club Reserves 12-1.

Elliott Williams led the way with four goals, Kyle Walker and Tom Yarnold both hit doubles, with Sean Housecroft, David O’Keefe, Matthew Barrett and Jordan Ledgard completing the tally.

Lee Davey bagged the consolation goal for Overthorpe, who remain second bottom.

In another all-Huddersfield battle, Tom Travas, Blaine Cudjoe and James Gilling-Kelly all found the nets in a 3-1 win over bottom side Shire, who replied through Steve Evans.
