Cleck boxer Yates' run ends in Birmingham

CLECKHEATON BOXING ACADEMY boxer Jordan Yates’ run in the English Amateur Boxing Association championships ended on Sunday.

The 15-year-old boxing talent was defeated by Midlands champion Mohammed Husnain in Birmingham in his semi-final bout.

In a fiercely contested three-round bout Yates had pushed his title-holding opponent close before eventually losing out on a split decision.

He had previously beaten Merseyside, Cheshire and North West Champion Joshua Harrison at the quarter-final stage – picking up the Northern England Champion accolade in the process.

The semi-final loss means Jordan ends his season as the number four-ranked boxer in the country at 50kg and also Yorkshire, Tyne Tees and Wearside champion.
