Boys make cup exit after Newsome thrashing

BATLEY BOYS made an early exit in the PENNINE PRESIDENTS CUP after a 48-10 loss at Newsome Panthers in round one.

It was a third-successive loss for the Halifax Road men and they will be aiming to get back to winning ways tomorrow (Sat) as they travel to Morley Borough in CHAMPIONSHIP ONE.

Shaw Cross Sharks failed to end West Leeds’ unbeaten run as they were beaten 52-18 in the ANDREW BENNETT MEMORIAL TROPHY.

The league cup game was always a tough ask for the Sharks, who play in Division Two, against a side top of the Division One table. But they put in a brave display despite the one-sided scoreline.

The Leeds Road side are back in league action tomorrow (Sat) when they travel to the hills of Huddersfield to take on table-toppers Underbank Rangers – who have only been defeated once in 10 outings this campaign.

DIVISION ONE side Ossett Trinity, without a game at the weekend, host Division Three high-flyers Woodhouse Warriors in the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy tomorrow (Sat).

Dewsbury Celtic were gifted a walkover in the PENNINE SUPPLEMENTARY CUP round two as Wyke A failed to raise a team.

The Green and Whites travel to Eastmoor Dragons tomorrow (Sat) for a crucial DIVISION FOUR encounter.

A victory for Celtic could lift them clear of the relegation zone, but that is a big ask against a Eastmoor side currently sitting second in the table.

Elsewhere, Hanging Heaton couldn’t field a side for their PENNINE SUPPLEMENTARY CUP clash at Doncaster Toll Bar A.

It was something of a missed opportunity for the Dewsbury side who had every chance of progressing to round three against a team who play a division below them.
