Birstall Victoria Under-15s won the Yorkshire Juniors Continuation Cup with a dominant performance against Fryston Warriors at the LD Nutrition Stadium on Saturday afternoon, running out 34-4 winners.
Birstall dominated from the off and spent the majority of the opening half hour camped in Fryston’s half.
Man-of-the-match Joshua Beevers opened the scoring for the Vic with Kane Ellis and Reece Ripley also crossing. All the tries were unconverted, giving Birstall a 12-0 lead at half time.
Fryston scored their only points of the game minutes into the second half as they took advantage of a Birstall knock-on.
The scrum formed 10 metres from the Vic line and the Warriors forced their way over.
But Birstall hit back with two tries in quick succession. Skipper Robson Stevens crashed over for his first and was soon followed by Leon Grayshon who scored in similar style.
Harry Copley converted both scores to give Vic a 20-point advantage.
Excellent defence from Birstall prevented Fryston from getting a foothold in the game.
Every break they made was thwarted by a determined Vic side.
Stevens and Ripley both scored their second tries of the game to round off a brilliant afternoon for Birstall as they were crowned U-15s Continuation Cup winners.
The side will also have the chance to scoop more silverware when they take on Dewsbury Moor in the Heavy Woollen Cup Final, the date of that fixture is yet to be confirmed.
