Bell snatches maiden victory

British driver Matt Bell and American Michael Guasch guided the Birstallbased United Autosports Audi R8 LMS to a lastgasp victory in the third round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Snetterton.
The AngloAmerican parternship’s joy was topped off by a fine fifth place finish by John Bintcliffe and Jay Palmer in the 172mile event.
Bell & Guasch (pictured) started the race joint third in the championship standings but their hardearned victory now puts them at the top of the rankings.
The achievement represented Bell’s career best qualifying position in the Audi R8 LMS and the first front row start for United Autosports in only the team’s fifth BGT race.
Bell seemed to hav blown any chance of glory when he was forced into the pits for a ‘stopgo’ penalty.
However the Brit somehow manage to get back the second place that lost before snatching the victory, by overtaking the race leader on the first bend, on the final lap.
Bell held off any late fightback to claim the chequered flag and cap off a tremendous fightback for by his team.
