CLECKHEATON RUFC have promoted from within, unveiling Ian Armitage as their new head coach.
Armitage, who arrived last year to assist outgoing boss Dave Harrison, takes charge with immediate effect.
The former Old Brodleians chief initially acted as the club’s backs coach, and he played a key role during last season as the Moorenders secured an impressive third-placed finish in the league.
Armitage will preside over pre-season training which is set to get underway towards the end of next month, before leading Cleckheaton’s promotion charge from September.
A spokesperson said: “We are delighted to have Ian on board and wish him every success in his new role.”
The Spen Valley outfit missed out on a promotion play-off spot by just seven points last term, despite winning 11 of their closing 12 league ties.
