A TERRIFIED woman was forced to flee through Ossett town centre after being strangled and tied up by her jealous boyfriend.
Mark Doherty was jailed for three years for attacking the woman after accusing her of sleeping with another man while he was in prison.
Leeds Crown Court was told that the couple had been on a night out together and, after returning to their home, he became aggressive and choked her until she lost consciousness.
When she woke, she discovered that Doherty had made a rope out of her clothing and had tied her up using the flex from an electric fan.
But she managed to escape and CCTV footage showed her running through the centre of Ossett on her way to the police station.
Doherty left the house following the attack, taking with him the victim’s mobile phone and bank card, which he used to withdraw £250.
The court heard that when she arrived at the police station, the victim was shaking and her voice was trembling.
Allan Armbrister, mitigating, said his client was “deeply ashamed and very remorseful” of his actions.
Doherty, of Camellia Close, Lupset, Wakefield, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and two offences of theft.
