WE LOOK at concerns police are not using their powers to tackle gipsies often enough after trouble flared in Mirfield and Shaw Cross.

Officers did intervene in Shaw Cross to save a rugby gala last Saturday, but not when they returned last Sunday, while in Mirfield there were claims dog walkers were confronted.

Coun Martyn Bolt (Con, Mirfield) has written to the chief constable and police and crime commissioner demanding action is taken.

Police said their pwoers are normally only used for land such as school playing fields in term time or a cemetery when the impact on communities would be significant.
