Singers wanted for choir’s charity single

SINGERS are wanted to help complete a charity single in Batley on Sunday in memory of Jo Cox MP.

The Batley Community Choir will be at the town hall from 4pm to 5.30pm for a recording session for their version of The Rose.

Made famous by Bette Midler, extras are wanted for the song’s epic final verse. Spaces are limited, on a first-come, first-served basis and there are no auditions. Cash raised from the single will be donated to the Jo’s Fund charity.

The choir, formed in 2014, performed the song on Channel 4 show The Last leg the day after Mrs Cox died. They also sang it to an audience of millions around the world for her birthday memorial last Wednesday.

Musical director Gary Skyrme said of their Channel Four appearance live from Batley Parish Church: “We wanted to honour Jo’s memory.

“And the reaction we’ve had from people all over the UK tells us we did just that.

“Some viewers suggested a charity version of the song, and so now we’re making it a reality.”
