SINGER-SONGWRITER Jade Helliwell is on the cusp of making it big in the music industry after another whirlwind week.
The Batley performer, 26, topped off days of TV, newspaper and radio interviews by signing with a top management firm following her viral video success.
Jade will now be represented by Jonathan Shalit OBE, the man who launched the career of Charlotte Church and worked with major names such as Cher, Jon Bon Jovi and Sting. Mr Shalit went to see her gig at The New Inn in Churwell last Friday night, and the pair have agreed a deal with his ROAR Global firm.
Jade, who works as a teaching assistant at Ravensthorpe Junior School, is well known on the local music scene and has gigged in venues across the district since she was a teenager. But earlier this month she became an international sensation after a video featuring her performing with a busker racked up more than 15 million views online.
She was enjoying a night out with friends in Leeds when she spotted a street musician and asked if she could join him for an impromptu duet. The busker and onlookers got a surprise when they discovered that Jade was no mere Saturday night reveller.
The country singer belted out the Leonard Cohen classic Hallelujah, filling the streets with her powerful voice, and a video of the collaboration has been watched more than 15 million times and thanks to the publicity her latest album reached number eight in the UK charts.
On Monday she appeared on the BBC Look North sofa to announce her latest plans, which include a national tour in August and September alongside Blackpool-based singer-songwriter Emma Moore.
She has also been given the use of a new top-of-the-range Yamaha guitar after winning the music giant’s Hoedown competition.
Jade actually launched her five-track EP ‘Forget The Night’ last October.
Billed as a ‘true country’ sound, it follows on from her debut album, Secrets, for which she was nominated as best country singer 2016 by UK Country Radio. Her next gig in North Kirklees will be at Batley Irish Nash on Saturday, May 20.
Forget The Night is available on all major online platforms (iTunes, Amazon etc). For more info visit jadehelliwell.com.
