Scrap merchant escapes jail

A SCRAP dealer based in Ravensthorpe escaped jail despite being caught by police buying ‘stolen’ cable in a sting operation.

Wayne Griffiths, of Arthur Brook Ltd, agreed to buy copper cables three times by officers posing as sub-contractors for BT.

He was given a four-month jail sentence suspended for a year at Leeds Crown Court after admitting attempting to handle stolen goods.

Griffiths, 45, of Wakefield, must complete 150 hours of unpaid work and must pay £1,800 in costs.
