Public ensure poppies adorn police vehicles

IT TOOK Mirfield councillors Sean Guy and Martyn Bolt just two days to raise enough money to have poppies put on every police car in Kirklees.

The pair set up a JustGiving page last Tuesday lunchtime looking to raise a minimum of £150 for the radiator grille car poppies – and by Thursday night they’d reached £200 through online and cash donations.

Coun Guy encouraged everyone to donate just £6 – the cost of a car poppy – and the response means now all police cars and vans in Kirklees can display the symbol. The poppies were handed over at Dewsbury Police Station on Friday morning.

Coun Guy, a standard bearer for Mirfield’s Royal British Legion branch, said: “I think this shows again the generosity of the people of Mirfield and continues to demonstrate the respect and appreciation they have for the sacrifices of our service personnel.”
