A NURSE has won an award for her outstanding work at Dewsbury District Hospital's intensive care unit.
Diane Marchewka was named 'star of the year' in the Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust annual bash Celebrating Success.
It was held in Wakefield last Thursday, with Diane triumphing for her efforts over many years at Dewsbury.
She was also described as showing exemplary management skills in difficult times and is a a great colleague to work with.
Diane said: "I'm humbled and honoured to have received this award and feel privileged to be working alongside such a fantastic team.
"This award is not just about me, it's about every individual staff member who contributes on a daily basis.
"They go over and above the call of duty to ensure safe patient care under difficult circumstances."
Nearly 250 staff, including doctors and nurses, attended the bash.
The overall winner was the urology services team for improving the management of prostate cancer.
Trust chairman Jules Preston MBE said in a speech: “Everyone in the room should be very proud.
“We began 2012/13 with a number of challenges and issues that we could not avoid but we ended the year in a very different place.
"The transformations, improvements and progress we have made are all thanks to our people.”
