Police probe bed factory fire

FIRE crews battled a bed factory blaze at New Ing Mills, off Field Lane in Batley early on Monday morning.

The fire is being investigated by police as arson.

Appliances from Dewsbury, Morley, Ossett, Hunslet and Cleckheaton were involved, with specialist support from Wakefield, Mirfield, Featherstone and Pontefract.

Watch Commander Tony Pearson, from Dewsbury Fire Station, said: “We were there about four hours. Because of the old style of the building there were a lot of hot spots that had to be secured. There was extensive smoke and fire damage to about 20 per cent of the building.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting crime reference number 13190461262 or via www.westyorkshire.police.uk/contact-us.
