Police and Council team up to fight child sexual exploitation

WEST Yorkshire Police and Kirklees Council held a day of action in Crow Nest Park last week.

Officers spoke with businesses and taxi firms as well as mounting high visibility patrols with police horses, while safeguarding officials from the council spoke with young people in the area to inform them of the support that is available.

Detective Sergeant Mark Catney said: “Protecting children and ensuring that victims are put at the heart of everything we do is a top priority. We have specialist safeguarding units which include officers dedicated to dealing with current and historic child abuse and child sexual exploitation.

“Tackling child abuse is not something that any one agency can do in isolation, however, which is why we work closely with local authorities and other organisations and charities to support victims, bring offenders to justice and make our communities safer.”

Information on child exploitation can be found at www.westyorkshire.policeuk/cse.
