Police continue to probe teen's death in Birstall

POLICE investigating the suspicious death of a teenager in Birstall have released a 17-year-old female under investigation.

Kelsey Womersley, 19, died at a flat in Raikes Lane in the early hours of Friday morning.

Two men aged 20 and 19 and another woman aged 23 were arrested on suspicion of murder but were released with no further action taken.

The other teenage suspect was released pending continuing enquiries on Saturday.

Officers launched a murder investigation on Friday after they were called to reports of an assault on a female at around 12.05am. Despite medical attention, Miss Womersley died at the scene.

Detectives say they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the matter and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Det Sup Jim Griffiths, of the homicide and major enquiry team, said: "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of what took place in the property just before midnight on Thursday and the precise cause of Kelsey's death.

"I would continue to ask anyone who may have information about what occurred who we have not spoken with to contact the homicide and major enquiry team on 101 referencing crime number 13190122732."

Miss Womersley's family have also warned against contributing to a GoFundMe page set up after her death.

The fundraising page titled Kelsey's Send Off was set up by friends, but her family have said they were not consulted and do not support it.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "The family want to highlight that the page is not something they were consulted about and therefore do not support at what continues to be a very difficult for them.

"They do not require any fundraising in relation to Kelsey's death and are advising members of the public who might make donations that this is not something they need."
