TWO young entrepreneurs have been appointed to manage Mirfield’s 75th anniversary VE Day commemorations.
Elliott Rayne and Joseph Taylor, from EJ Events UK, were chosen by the Mirfield Branch of The Royal British Legion and Mirfield Town Council after a successful pitch.
Elliott, a St John Fisher old boy, and Joe, who attended Mirfield Free Grammar, have enjoyed a successful start to their business venture.
The company, which caters for private events such as birthdays, weddings and corporate functions, was launched in October 2018. And now the young entrepreneurs will be responsible for all aspects of event planning, social media and communications throughout Mirfield’s VE Day commemorations.
The three-day event in Mirfield town centre begins on VE Day itself, Friday May 8 with an early-evening screening of a World War Two-related film.
The whole weekend will be 1940s-themed, with a prize for the best dressed 40s-style family.
A parade through the town centre will take place the following day, with live acts performing on stage and a variety of stalls on offer, before the weekend closes on Sunday May 10 with a classic car-themed event.
The Mayor, Coun Martyn Bolt said: “We are thrilled to have EJ Events on board. The celebrations will be an opportunity for us all to remember the enormous sacrifices that were made and to pay tribute to those who gave so much to ensure we all enjoy the freedom we have today.”
Elliott Rayne, said: “I’m so proud that we have the opportunity to commemorate and remember the heroes from our local town and beyond by organising such a special event.
“We couldn’t be more excited to deliver a truly wonderful event. We want this to be something Mirfield remembers for years to come.”
