Passers-by held girl on bridge

TWO people helped a teenage girl down from a bridge in Cleckheaton on Friday night.

The passers-by climbed over the bridge railings on the Spen Valley Greenway, over Westgate, and held on to the girl before emergency services were called to the scene at 7.30pm.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue team were called to help police officers try and get her down.

A crew member from Cleckheaton Fire Station, said: “The real heroes though were two very courageous members of the public who climbed over and sort of held her to stop her from doing what she wanted to do. Eventually after an hour she was talked into climbing back over and taken into care of police.”

Three similar incidents have taken place at the bridge in recent weeks.
