Parking permit plan axed

A PLAN to charge residents £30 a year to park in permit zones near their homes has been axed.
Kirklees Council's ruling Labour cabinet agreed to bring in the levy in June, sparking public outrage.
Many of the 160 zones in Kirklees were brought in to alleviate onstreet parking problems close to busy public institutions like Dewsbury Hospital.
Cabinet members heard in June that parking permits cost £22 each to administer, including staff time, equipment use and postage.
A further £8 is needed per permit to cover the cost of maintaining road markings and signs.
