A new water feature will be unveiled at Batley’s Wilton Park next Saturday after three months of delays.
Bad weather prevented the July opening of the cascade at the side of the lake and then there were safety concerns. Kirklees Council officials were worried children could slip on the cascade’s stones when green algae forms, so ordered railings to be fitted.
They have now been installed, meaning the cascade can be unveiled on Saturday October 6 (1.30pm). Dr Fiona Spiers of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) will perform the opening, which will feature a speech from Gerry Hird of the Friends of Wilton Park.
The group Vintage Brass are to perform and there will be a photographic exhibition called “Times Gone By in Wilton Park”.
The cascade is the last part of a yearlong £50,000 HLFfunded project undertaken to celebrate the park’s centenary.
