A NEW bus service linking Dewsbury to the Junction 27 Retail Park at Birstall is being launched by an independent operator.
SGI Buses, based at the Bretton Street Enterprise Centre in Dewsbury, will start their 288 service on Wednesday April 24.
The service will go up Bradford Road past the Frontier nightclub to Batley town centre and on to Carlinghow and Howden Clough.
The route then goes into Birstall, up to the Fieldhead Estate and ends at the bus stop on Gelderd Road near PC World.
It is to run from 7.30am to 5.40pm Monday to Saturday, with fares capped at a maximum of £2 for an adult single from Dewsbury to Birstall. Half-price concessions are available and the company is considering allowing free return journeys for anyone who buys a single ticket.
The buses will have a red and white colour scheme and feature both the SGI Buses and Metro logos.
Arriva Yorkshire used to run a similar service, but it took 90 minutes to reach the Showcase Cinema from Dewsbury via Heckmondwike and Cleckheaton.
Dale Steel, manager at SGI Buses, said: “Anyone who currently wants to go to the Showcase from Dewsbury has to get
two buses. This is expensive and
time-consuming. We think there's a need to offer a cheaper and faster alternative.â€
