CLAIMS by farright activists that a proposed mosque extension in Dewsbury has been given planning permission are not true.
The English Defence League claimed on their Facebook page that the development in Mallinson Street, Westborough, had been approved.
The Press checked with Kirklees Council and confirmed that the application, which is recommended for refusal, has not even been considered yet. The bid, by controversial businessman Tahir “Terry” Zaman, is for front and rear extensions, plus alterations to the roof.
This, the application states, will allow counselling, a dropin advice centre and computer and English and Arabic language classes to be held there.
Mr Zaman withdrew an earlier application to treble the size of the building, formerly the Happiness Club.
He came back with a more modest proposal, which can be found on the Kirklees Council website under the reference, 2012/62/92044/E.
Meanwhile, part of the EDL’s Facebook posting said: “Indications coming in are that the Westborough Mosque planning application has been approved.”
A council spokeswoman said that was not true and added the proposal was likely to go before the planning committee on December 6.
