A MAN attacked a good samaritan who had tried to defuse a row between him and his partner.
Scott Healey, 19, kicked and punched Darryl Cooper as he lay on the ground after he had seen Healey's girlfriend upset during a heated exchange between the two.
Several members of the public called police to Nab Lane, Mirfield, on July 9 when they witnessed the couple arguing and fighting.
Mr Cooper left his house in an attempt to calm the situation but was pushed over, punched in the face and kicked in the back.
Kirklees Magistrates' Court heard that when Mr Cooper arrived at the scene, Healey's partner was on the floor and he tried to pick her up and take her back to his home.
Mohammed Arif, mitigating, said that the female was extremely intoxicated at the time and had punched Healey, leaving him with a bloody nose.
He told the court that Healey did not want anybody near his girlfriend and the victim was a stranger to her.
District Judge Peter Johnson sentenced Healey, of Nettleton Avenue, Mirfield, to a community order with 33 days of activities.
He must also comply with an eight-week curfew and pay Mr Cooper £200 in compensation.
