A MUSIC festival in Mirfield marking the Tour de France Grand Depart is a step closer. The date for the event, now known as M Fest, has been confirmed as Bank Holiday Sunday May 25.
Lack of council funding means organiser Donal O’Driscoll wants to pay for it by selling discounted tickets in advance.
An earlier idea that the town’s public toilets should benefit has been ditched in favour of raising funds for Kirkwood Hospice.
Mr O’Driscoll claims six acts have already signed up to appear, with further interest from the town’s two high schools.
He said: “I’m delighted to say we could end up with students from Castle Hall Academy opening the festival. They are doing a production of Annie this month and could be taking pieces from that as part of their performance for the festival.”
Tickets are available until the end of February at the discounted rates of £5 for adults and £3 for children.
From tomorrow (Sat) shops including Fish Wi’ Bits, Home & Body, Ramsdens Butchers and The Missing Label will be selling tickets. They can also be bought from Kirkwood Hospice on 01484 557911. For more details see www.mfest.biz.
