A CONTROVERSIAL planning strategy that may swamp green belt land with homes and industry is to be reviewed.
Kirklees Council’s cabinet will discuss the Local Development Framework (LDF) at Huddersfield Town Hall on Tuesday.
Green belt land at Chidswell in Dewsbury, Thornhill Lees and Cooper Bridge at Mirfield would be at risk from developers if the LDF is approved.
The plan was, though, recommended for withdrawal by council officials after a Government inspector savaged it.
Councillors decided to wait as Leeds City Council was appealing against an inspector’s ruling that had implications for Kirklees.
Both authorities were accused of failing to co-operate with other councils on their respective LDFs. Leeds has just won its appeal.
The Kirklees Labour administration is to discuss the issue from 4pm. It will be broadcast live on the web for anyone unable to attend.
A report by council officers said: “The implications of the Leeds decision have been discussed with group leaders, who are supportive of the proposal to hold an exploratory meeting.”
