A PLUMBER from Mirfield has lost seven-and-a-half stones while continuing to eat his favourite steak and chips!
John Sutton, 60, who runs SRS Plumbing, Heating and Electrical, shed the weight in barely a year thanks to Slimming World.
The 6ft 4in former amateur rugby league player started out tipping the scales at a whopping 33st 11lb.
Birmingham-born John, of Stocks Bank Road, is now down to 26st 4lb and aims to get down to about 20st.
He was inspired by Michelle Patterson, who lost more than three stone in just 16 weeks through Slimming World’s Mirfield branch.
She surprised husband Stuart by dropping from a size 20 to a size 16 while he was away serving in Afghanistan.
John decided to follow her example, fearing he had probably pushed his luck health-wise as far as it would go.
He said: “Despite my size I’ve never had knee problems, diabetes or heart trouble but I thought I might if I didn’t do something.”
John can still eat steak and chips and fried breakfasts as long as they are cooked healthier and have all the fat cut off.
Partner Myra Bentley has lost two-and-half stone just by following the same healthy eating plan as John.
He said: “The support and encouragement you get from the group is amazing.
“There’s no judgement and it’s inspiring to see how other people’s faces and bodies change over time.
“The difference it’s made to me is incredible. I couldn’t even stand to look at myself in the mirror before.”
Slimming World meet on Mondays at the Old Bank WMC and on Wednesdays at the Zion Baptist Church.
John believes one of the reasons for the group’s success is consultant Susan Wellburn. He said: “She genuinely cares about everyone who attends.
“And she’s got such a bubbly personality. It’s her enthusiasm and that of the group that draws you in.”
