A NEW comedy movie is set to be filmed in Dewsbury and Batley.
Destination Dewsbury tells the story of four school friends who reunite in their 40s after hearing the leader of their old gang is terminally ill.
They decide to take a road trip to Dewsbury to see him, which does not go entirely to plan.
The project is slightly unusual in that the average age of the film crew is just 21 – including 19-year-old director Jack Spring, who will be making his feature debut.
Jack dropped out of university after one year to follow his dream of becoming a film director.
He said: “Destination Dewsbury is the first time everyone in the crew, including myself, has had the freedom and the funding to achieve what we want, how we want and it’s been a serious but very exciting learning curve so far. Having the opportunity to offer other young people work is an incredible feeling and we have such a talented, dedicated team of young people forging their own paths in an industry that is notoriously hard to get into.”
The film is the debut of production company Circus Pictures, who will be filming the entire movie around Yorkshire. The company said they chose Dewsbury as a location to “bring attention and opportunity to a town with high youth employment”.
Alongside the film, Circus Pictures will be shooting a behind-the-scenes documentary following the personalities involved in the making of Destination Dewsbury.
Filming will begin in mid-September in Dewsbury, Batley, Leeds and York and will be released next year.
Extras are being sought for locations in Yorkshire, with more information available at www.destinationdewsbury.com.
