MIRFIELD’S own Neil Sean is hosting a special free event at Mirfield’s Knowl Club on Saturday April 20.
International broadcaster Neil, son of Press TV columnist Ann Montini, will be pre-screening his show ‘Empires, Hippodromes & Palaces – The Story Of Variety’ ahead of it being shown on BBC TV later this year.
The programme features lots of memories from local venues such as Dewsbury Empire and Neil, who can be seen daily on NBC News in the US, reveals: “This is a wonderful evening to remember the greats of comedy and variety.
“Mike and Bernie Winters, Tommy Steele, Des O’Connor, Frank Randle, Al Reed, The Windmill Girls, Morecambe & Wise and many more are interviewed ahead of the film being screened on the BBC later in the year.
“I really want the people of Mirfield to come on down, relax and take a trip back in time and enjoyed a free night out along with many free prizes.
“For many people Dewsbury’s Empire Theatre, along with the Huddersfield Palace, were really their world of wonder, a place where they got to see in the flesh all the biggest stars of the day.
“Many thought it was a shame when they pulled down the Empire because it left the people of Dewsbury with no live theatre at all. How we all miss it now.â€
As well as the screening of ‘Empires, Hippodromes & Palaces – The Story Of Variety’ there will also be a raffle, with exclusive prizes from local businesses.
The screening is free for all and everyone attending will receive a gift worth £13.99.
The fun starts at 7.45pm at Knowl Club, on Knowl Road, Mirfield.
