Earlsheaton family to star in national brass championship

A FAMILY of musicians from Earlsheaton are set to star in the national brass band championships.

Kirklees Council workman Graham Fisher, wife Susan and daughter Rachel all play with the Gawthorpe Brass Band.

The group, who recently performed at Oakwell Hall in Birstall, are to attend the national championships in Cheltenham next month.

Graham plays the euphonium while Susan and Rachel, who met husband Stephen through the band, are both on cornet.

The group are also about to record an album in what is both a busy and expensive spell.

Sales from the CD are for band funds while the sponsors are being sought to help with their Cheltenham trip.

Graham said the cost of travel and hotel accommodation alone comes to more than £2,600.

He added: “We’re totally self-financing and provide lessons classes and bands for pre-school, beginners and juniors.”

Anyone who can help can call band secretary Emma Whaites on 07949 899929 or e-mail secretary@gawthorpe85.co.uk.
