Drugs trio face notice of eviction

COUNCIL tenants in Mirfield who were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences have been served with eviction notices this week. Police officers and Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing representatives served three notices to tenants living at properties on Northway Gardens and Southway on the London Park Estate on Monday. All three homes were raided by police last month and two men and a woman, aged 45, 24 and 17 respectively, were arrested by officers from the Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team. Suspected illegal drugs – including MCat and cannabis – and drug paraphernalia were discovered after searches aided by sniffer dogs. The trio were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and the 45yearold man was also arrested on suspicion of possessing criminal property. All three are now on police bail pending forensic enquiries. The tenants have four weeks to consider their options and either accept the notice and move out, or contest it in court. KNH’s director of operations Paul Buckley said: “Using a Kirklees Council property for illegal purposes, which includes taking, selling, supplying or possessing drugs, is a serious breach of tenancy conditions. “We will not hesitate to take the strongest legal action possible in such cases.” PCs Gary Guy and Chris Bullock, of Dewsbury and Mirfield NPT, have worked hard on the estate in recent months, developing links with the community and tackling crime and quality of life issues for residents. PC Guy added: “This work shows how seriously we are taking the issues that we have discovered whilst working on the estate.”
