David Miliband set to be next MP?

BATLEY & SPEN: Internet rumours have linked a big political name to the parliamentary by-election – David Miliband.

Steve Hawkes, deputy political editor at The Sun, posted on Twitter on Monday: “David Miliband 7-1 to be next Labour leader – presumably via the uncontested Batley and Spen by-election?”

Two days before that Mr Miliband was allegedly seen arriving at Heathrow Airport, according to a tweet on gossip site Eye Spy MP.

Mr Miliband was Foreign Secretary from 2007-2010 and left UK politics in 2013, moving to a humanitarian role in the USA after losing the Labour leadership election to his brother Ed.

But Siraj Datoo, a political reporter at Buzzfeed, tweeted: “Just rumour-based. It’s an all-women shortlist anyway.”

Local sources however said Mr Miliband was due to meet with local party activists next week.
