Council's £1m help desk switch

A NEW onestop shop customer help desk offering advice on benefits and council services is coming to Dewsbury.

It will be based in the Walsh Building in Town Hall Way after Kirklees Council’s ruling Labour cabinet gave the gohead last week.

The £1 million plan, to be completed over the next nine months, involves moving the current help desk from the town hall and refurbishing the Walsh Building.

It is hoped the work allows Dewsbury Town Hall, which recently had a multimillion pound makeover, to be mainly a cultural and events hub.

Help desk customers will benefit from having a more convenient layout in a speciallydesigned bright modern surroundings.

Cabinet member for resources Coun Shabir Pandor said: “It will help local people access the services that are important to them. Consolidating services in a new modern customer centre, which has a convenient and high profile site, is a real boost to Dewsbury.”
