Cleckheaton dog thief jailed

A man has been jailed for six months over the death of a dog stolen from outside a supermarket.
Gary Marshman, 27, was convicted last month of taking a 12yearold Border Collie cross called Jess from outside Tesco in Northgate, Cleckheaton.
Marshman, of Bradford, was also sentenced to 14 days in jail for previously failing to surrender to custody.
He was caught on CCTV taking the dog. Jess was found dead in Spen Beck after being thrown off the Mann Dam bridge. Marshman was sentenced at Batley and Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
