A TRAINEE naval aircraft engineer from Birstall has won an award for his work on Sea King helicopters.
Christian Wild, 23, was named trainee of the term at 849 Naval Air Squadron, which is based at RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall.
The former St Patrick’s Primary School pupil impressed bosses with his work keeping the helicopters air worthy.
He is now assigned to the squadron’s Airborne Surveillance and Control Force, which run ‘eye in the sky’ operations across the world.
Christian, who also attended St John Fisher High School in Dewsbury, was a chef before joining the navy in 2012.
Part of his training saw him deployed to France on a major exercise with the French Aircraft Carriers’ Combat Air Group in Brittany last year.
He said: “Being an air engineer for the Sea King is really exciting. I love every minute of it.
“Finishing the training is quite a milestone. All of us are now looking forward to getting onto the front line.”
